Track V
COATINGS & LININGS FOR WASTEWATER STRUCTURES

Track Moderators: Diego Calderón, M.Sc. and Gerry Muenchmeyer, NASSCO

8:30 - 9:25 a.m.
Coatings & Linings For Wastewater And Water Structures
Speaker: Rocky Capehart, Business Development Manager, Sprayroq
The presentation will illustrate that coatings and linings provide solutions in wastewater and water for infiltration/inflow control, corrosion protection and structural enhancement. You will learn how to select the right systems and how to match problems with solutions. Different products options will be discussed for corrosion protection, infiltration/inflow control and structural renewal.

9:30 - 10:25 a.m.
Concrete Rehabilitation & The Importance Of Proper Surface Preparation: Getting It Right The First Time!
Speakers: Jeff Maier, PE, Engineer III, Metro Wastewater Reclamation District; Vaughn O’Dea, PCS, Director of Sales-Water & Wastewater Treatment, Tnemec Company
Municipal sewerage systems, including manholes and structures, are typically constructed using concrete materials. The protection of manhole and other concrete structure assets using high-performance protective coatings is only as good as the surface preparation and restoration performed by the installer. This presentation explains the industry consensus standard (NACE No. 6/ SSPC-SP13) for surface preparation and restoration requirements when applying a high-performance protective lining to wastewater manholes.

10:30 - 10:55 a.m.
Lower Costs, Not Your Expectations: Use Dry Microsilica Powder To Increase Resistance Of Concrete, Brick Structures
Speaker: Mario Tamez, President, Standard Cement Materials
The rate of deterioration among the world’s sewer and water systems continues to outrun the resources and work force to fix them. This presentation will suggest that sewer manhole restoration is possible through appropriate planning, budgeting and the use of practical, rehabilitation methods including the use of dry microsilica powder admixtures.

11 - 11:25 a.m.
Can I Afford To Use That? Total Job Cost Analysis To Evaluate New Products, Technologies
Speaker: Eric Dickson, General Manager, Cretex Specialty Products
Discussion will focus on the total job costs analysis that can be used to evaluate the use of new technology in the underground construction industry. The goal is to look at not only the direct material costs, but also labor, equipment, productivity, injury and workers compensation and other factors. The combination of these elements is then analyzed using a lifetime cost that accounts for repair costs and replacement costs over the expected life of the system. A tool has been built to capture these costs and make the calculations for comparing construction techniques of the chimney section of a manhole, but the analysis can be extended to new technology in the industry.

1 - 1:25 p.m.
How To Prevent I/I In The Manhole Chimney Area
Speaker: William Goff, National Sales Manager, Sealing Systems Inc.
Learn how to identify manhole chimney leakage. The costs to treat I/I, proactive, preventative methods to reduce I/I and how to rehab the manhole chimney area will also be shared.

1:30 - 1:55 p.m.
Coatings & Linings: The Secret To Successful Installation
Speaker: Danny Warren, Operations Manager, Warren Environmental
The presentation will review the importance of confined space safety, proper surface preparation and application techniques and inspection protocol for manhole lining projects. The discussion will focus on five industrial lining projects as examples to illustrate the importance of each component of the installation process.

2 - 2:25 p.m.
Ask The Experts
Presenters will participate in a panel discussion.
